417 Speedway Re-Cap Posted 3/5/2020

I want to give a shout out to Robbie Cambell, one of our ace Sprint Car drivers who is recovering from a surgery he had just prior to Auburndale Nationals. Get well soon from your DAARA family.

All in all we had a great night at 417 Speedway. I have to thank everyone at the 417 Speedway for getting us in the show early so those of us with a long drive home could do so safely. It was a fun evening even though we only had the modifieds on hand. Many of the Sprints and Midgets were not able to make the trip so for the sake of having so few available drivers in those 2 classes that could make the journey to 417 we decided in the interest of all concerned to run only 1 class. My apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused to the 2 or 3 cars that were looking forward to making the trip and had to cancel Friday evening.

The night got off to a good start with a field of 7 Modifieds. Al Jurkowski in the #41 car, Howie Masters in the #17, Richie Gomes in the #27, Steve Slaughter in the #13, David Glenn in the #V2, Mark Reardon in the #00 and Darren Nichols in the #6X and one lonely Sprint Car, new member Ken Goewey with the #20 who came to the track to shake down the car after a carb change. We put all 8 cars on the track and had a great time in the heat race with eventual winner Al Jurkowski in the beautiful #41 machine.

At Feature time Steve Slaughter, who had just jumped off a plane in time to jump into his race suit, came from the back of the field and after a brilliant on track battle with Richie Gomes in the #27 came home victorious in front of his home crowd. Richie Gomes would finish 2nd with Darren Nichols in the #6X crossing the finish in 3rd. There were battles through out the field which made for a fun and exciting event for fans and racers alike. Thanks to all participants for coming out and helping put on a great show.

DAARA Spring Nationals 2020 Posted3/4/2020

The 2020 Spring Nationals was a great success. Some of our old friends returned for the first time in a couple years and we also made some new friends. Special thanks to Rocky Buckles, Mary TreefuI, Richie Iverson, Steve and Hannah Slaughter, Mike and Chris Thompson, Josh Rynd, Dave Cash, Jimmy Reed, Wes Hill and crew, and Bonita Nichols to name a few, for all the help behind the scenes both on and off the track to make this all possible.  Thank you Matt Nichols and the good folks at Auburndale Speedway for having us and putting up with us for another year. The track concessions were great and the Friday night BBQ was fantastic. Most Importantly, I want to thank everyone for coming and bringing those beatuful machines for all to enjoy. We really missed those of you who could not make it this year but are looking forward to seeing you all during the year at upcoming events or at our Fall Nationals in November. Here is a teaser or 2. More to come.

Welcom Back Josh and Bill Rynd

The Weather presents its challenges but we persevered. Thanks to All who helped dry the track after we were blessed with liquid sunshine.

Marion County Bullring  10/21/2019

Thanks to everyone for coming out to the Bullring 10/12/2019. It was definitely a full moon kind of night starting with Josh and Bill Rynd being involved with a traffic accident on the way to the track. As the program got underway with only 2 laps on the board, Bob Wolpert tapped the  backstretch wall and climbed the fence ending up with the car upside down. Bob was transported to the hospital to be checked out and was released later that night. Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes for Bob and the Rynds. Josh Rynd remains in the hospital with a fractured Femur. When I spoke to Josh Sunday he was hoping to be released later this week.

Auburndale 9/10/2019

We had another exceptional evening at  the Auburndale Speedway this past Saturday night. It was our first race after the summer break and we had a great turnout. I want to thank everyone for coming and making this event such a success. We hope everyone comes out to our next event at Citrus County Speedway on 9/21/2019.

Ed Daniels was in attendance with  his ever popular 21c Speedster along with Ken Davison piloting the Bill Rynd #56 midget, Barry Watson in the beautiful #41 Midget, Boyd Vandersyde in the #9, and our newest member Theodore Filides piloting the Wes Hill #V6 midget. Thanks to all of you for coming out and putting these beauties on the Track.

Dave Davis in his Blue #7 modified along with David Glenn in his fiesty Red V2 machine and Steve Parrish in his familiar #38 led the field in the 6cy class. Cush Revette came loaded for bear with his beautiful #312 Chevrolet along with Steve Slaughter piloting the #13 coupe sporting the gorgeous new paint job, Carl Doughty in his always fast Red #3 and last Kelly Jarrett in his vintage tour modified #97 representing the V8s. Congratulations to all for a great night.

Duane LeCornu led the way for the Sprinters in the very quick Red #7 along with John Parrish piloting the Bob Wolpert owned White #5 beauty, Robert Campbell piloting the shiny new Black #5, Roy Campbell in his sporty #10 hot rod, Merle Strickland in the White #21, Josh Rynd in the famous Frank Riddle #15, and Darren Nichols in the Flamed #6 sprinter. Congratulations to all for a safe and successful event.

Bubba Raceway Recap 8/10/19

Back at it again at Bubbas last Saturday night. It was great to see everyone again after our long summer break and those who were able to make the trip to Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala had a great time dispite the heat and chances of rain during the event. Richie Iversen, Kelly Jarrett, Steve Slaughter, Ronnie Grubb,Robert Clements and Thomas Gamble were among the Mods that showed up for the non points race at Bubbas. Josh Rynd, Jimmy Miltner, Ed johnson and Darren Nichols all towed to Bubbas with their sprints and midgets. The track was in great condition despite the rain we have been having in Florida recently and the races went off without a hitch. Birthday boy Josh Rynd picking up the feature in the Sprints and Kelly Jarrett getting thru the field and picking up the win in the Mods. We want to thank Kelly Jarret for the use of his 4 wheeler to get the sprints to staging all night as well.

Our regular season will resume on Sept 7th at the Auberndale Speedway and we hope to see all of you back at the track.

We have a Non SVS event at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, FL on August 10, 2019

Hope to see everyone there!!

CREST Car Show (5/24/19)

Undoubtedly one of the funnest events we have undertaken. Crest School in Lecanto, FL allowed us to come show off our Vintage racers to their Students and Staff this morning.  A great big Thank You to Josh and Bill Rynd, David and Jeannie Glenn, Richie Iverson, Steve and Hannah Slaughter, Louis Ledlow, and Darren and Bonita Nichols. Also participating were Cole Nichols with his Top Gun Sprint and Corey Lane bringing out his Open Wheel Modified. There was much excitement in the air when we arrived at the School in Lecanto FL. These kids are some of the most awesome kids we have ever had the pleasure of meeting and hanging out with. The staff at Crest was equally awesome and to which we would like to say Thank You for allowing us to come be a part of your celebration and to be a part of these kids day. We would also like to thank the students from Lecanto High School who took time out of their day to help us move cars around and keep us a steady supply of freshly baked doughnuts and cold water. Both of these being very important items at a car show.

Eastbay Raceway (5/24/19)

What a night At Eastbay. There was a full field of Midgets and Modifieds along with 3 of the firebreathing Sprints. We had sveral cars out with mechanical issues but all in all a pretty decent turn out. In the mighty Midgets it was Bobby Jordan taking the checkers with a side by side battle for 2nd and 3rd that was declared a draw with Allen Palmer and Boyd Vandersyde with Wes Hill looking for an opening in a close 4th. Luke Hill and Ken Davison ran in the heat race with Luke missing the feature so he could prepare for the Top Gun Sprint race and Ken Davison missing the feature due to technical issues.

In the Modifieds it was a battle to the front in which Cole Nichols finally prevailed with the always fast Steve Parrish hot on his heels and Steve Slaughter in a close 3rd. Cush Revette and Richie Gomes were also a threat until late in the feature when their cars became loose on the very tricky racing surface.

The Sprintcars saw Josh Rynd in his Frank Riddle #15 taking the track and the much anticipated return of Jimmy Miltner and Darren Nichols after missing several events with broken engines. Jimmy Miltner would take the checkered flag for this main event after a hard battle with Darren Nichols and Josh Rynd. I would like to thank everyone who attended and am looking forward to seeing everyone at the Bullring in Marion County this Saturday night.

Upcoming Events (5/14/19)

 Eastbay Raceway Park 5/18/19

5/18/19 Eastbay Raceway is the place to be this Saturday night. We hope everyone will come out and join us as we take to the dirt of Eastbay. We will cross our fingers for a co-operative weatherman for this weekend as we try again to play in the dirt.

Special Event 5/24/19 Race To The End Of The School Year to be held at the CREST School located at 2600 S Panther Pride Dr. in Lecanto, FL.    CREST is a special school for students with disabilities. The kids and the staff are very excited of course to have us as they have been shown pictures and video footage of DAARA in action. I encourage anyone who can make it out to please contact Darren or Bonita Nichols 352-422-5289 by 5/17 so we can have a pass for you to be able to get into the School grounds. We have 10 cars confirmed at this time and we will be printing pictures of your cars so everyone has pictures to autograph and give out to the students so time to get signed up is now as we need time to get the pictures made. This is a great opportunity for us to do something special for these kids. Many of the kids will have questions for the drivers so come on out and lets make their day great. Set up starts at 8:30 am and the students will start coming out to see us at 9:30am thru 11am. If you have not called Bonita please do so and come be a part of these kids lives.

Marion County Speedway 5/25/19

Those who wish to do so can park their cars or campers at Marion County Speedway Friday after the car Show in Lecanto, FL. We will not be able to get on the track until Saturday's event.

Hendry County 5/11/19

For those who ventured out last Saturday to Hendry County we thank you for coming. The rain finally prevailed forcing the program to a halt. Steve Parrish won the heat race in the modifieds and Bob Wolpert took the checkers in the Sprint Cars. Again we appriciate all for coming out against the odds to try and put on a show.

It is with the heaviest of heart, that I now must report to you, that our dear friend and DAARA member David Jarret, has gone on to be with the Lord.
He passed quietly in his sleep last night, with his loving wife of 61 yrs Alice, holding one hand, as Jesus took the other.
Dave was an avid racer, but he was also an extremely devoted family man and man of God.
Dave and the whole Jarret family has been in our club for many, many years.
We will sorely miss Dave, his smile, quick wit, quiet and fun loving nature and his unwavering kindness.
May you walk joyfully with God our friend, until we meet again.
Kelly has asked that on behalf of his Mom and the entire Jarret family, to thank each of you for your prayers and all of the many cards sent to his dad. They truly meant a lot.
HIs final checkered flag here, has been taken.
Arrangements will be posted as soon as they are made.

Auburndale Speedway Charity Event

Saturday Dec. 15, 2018

The car counts were down due to the unpredictable weather but a few hearty souls braved the elements to attend the Bristol Family Charity Event at Auburndale Speedway.  Rocky Buckles brought out his Red #75 along with Steve Slaughter in the beautiful #13, New Member Dave Glenn brought out his gorgeous new #V2, Cush Revette brought out his latest car #312 and Frank Leinhardt in his beautiful #93.

Cush Revette took the checkers in the feature on Saturday night with a great run in the #312 car with Steve Slaughter and Dave Glenn in the top 3.  Rocky Buckles and Frank Lenhardt got together while avoiding a spinning car and were unable to finish the race.

On Sunday, Dec. 16 for the feature event it was Steve Slaughter in his very fast #13 car taking the checkers with Cush Revette finishing a very close  2nd place. John Smith in his amazing #11 car was also on hand Sunday along with Dave Glenn in his brand new V2 car.  Congratulations to everyone and thanks for coming out for what turned out to be 2 great days of racing.

The Sprint Car class also braved the elements and were rewarded with nice track conditions and beautiful weather.  Participation in the event was Stan Butler in a very Fast #0 car along with Shane Butler debuting the new #44 car of Bagetelly Racing along with "Bullet" Bob Wolpert in his beautiful #5 ride.  Hollywood Cole Nichols brought out the #20 car along with Darren Nichols in the flamed #6.

On Sat. night it was tight racing with Stan & Shane Butler & Bullet Bon Wolpert with Cole Nichols fighting handling issues trying to keep pace.  Darren Nichols in the #6 car suffered engine issues and was forced to retire from the event early.

Sunday was a beautiful day and racing was hot.  Stan Butler charged to an early lead with Shane Butler & Bob Wolpert in hot pursuit, never more than a car length apart. Cole Nichols in the #20 following shortly behind.  When the checkers fell it was Stan Butler,  Shane Butler,  Bob Wolpert and Cole Nichols at the finish.  Thank you to all for making it a great event.

We are looking forward to seeing all of you back as we start off the New Year at Auburndale Speedway on Jan. 26, 2019.

Have a Wonderful Holiday Season

Merry Christmas and Happy and safe New Year!!

DAARA 2018 Fall Nationals

  • It was an unseasonably cool start to our National event but was quick to warm up as the engines began to fire and dirt began to fly. A heavy rain Wednesday night could not dampen the the enthusiasm on Thursday morning. A very special Thank You to Bill and Lori Cleary and staff for all the hard work to get the track in perfect condition each day all day, not to mention the excellent food on Friday night for the DAARA Nationals BBQ. It was great to see all of our old friends and tell old stories of Nationals past. We had a great field of cars for the event with Sammy in the announcers stand calling the shots and much more of course, it was a good time for all. The Modifieds and Stock cars had 13 cars in the pits and had good events thru the weekend. The Midgets also had a strong field of cars totaling 11 cars in the pits. The Sprint cars who have been growing all year fielded 7 cars for the event. The Sprint Cars also started a new tradition of a 20 lap feature to cap off the weekend in the Sprint car class. Bob Wolpert was the 1st winner of the event with Cole Nichols and Dave Cash closely following. Congratulations to Bob Wolpert and all of our other participants for keeping the dream and these beautiful vintage cars alive. Pictures Coming soon.

Hendry County Motorsports Park

What an awesone night at Hendry County Raceway Park. The new  renovations at Hendry County were terrific from the grandstands to the racing surface. As always the folks at Hendry County were great and we all had a good time. Those of you who missed this one will be amazed with all the upgrades. Our car count was down a little due to the upcoming Nationals this week but those of you who made the trek south were treated to a good time. Many thanks to the Hendry County staff for working with us and thank you to all who attended.

Steve Parrish in his yellow #38 and Rocky Buckles in the #75 battled it out in both the heat race and the feature for the 6 Cylinder class with Steve Parrish taking the final checkers in the feature by a narrow margin.  Ed Johnson in his beautiful #3 took the honors with the midgets.

There were 6 Sprint Cars checked in for the event including Merle Strickland with his #21 car, Josh Rynd in the popular Frank Riddle car #15, Louis Brashear in the beautiful Red #4k honoring Charlie Dean by running the #52 on the car for this event. Also present was long time favorite Neil Reyngoudt in the Red 2J, Cole Nichols in his sporty #20 and Darren Nichols in the Yellow flamed #6. Racing in the Sprint class was also hot and heavy in both the heat and the feature event. Neil Reyngoudt pulled out the early lead from pole position and never looked back taking the checkered flag. Josh Rynd suffered a flat right front on the first lap and was forced to retire from the heat race. Louis Brashear  in the 4k/52 took over the 2nd position for the next several laps until he got wide in turn 4 allowing Darren Nichols in the #6 and Cole Nichols in the #20 to sneak under him with Merle Strickland close behind in the #21. The feature race was a dandy with Neil Reyngoudt taking the early lead challenged by Josh Rynd in the #15. Louis Brashear in the 4K/52 challenged briefly but due to mechanical issues fell back in the field. Darren Nichols  #6 battled briefly with Cole Nichols #20 before moving to the outside of Neil Reyngoudt's 2J machine with Cole Nichols in the #20 in hot pursuit. It was side by side to the finish with Neil Reyngoudt taking the Checkers for the 2nd time on the evening with Darren Nichols 2nd and Cole Nichols 3rd, Josh Rynd in the #15 4th,  Louis Brashear fighting a chassis issue held on in 5th and Merle Strickland in the 21 having a great run in 6th. Great job to all drivers and what a great event.

Hi Everyone. A quick reminder that we will be racing at Hendry County Nov 10, 2018. Gates open at 2pm. At last check everything was still a go for this event. The track has made a lot of improvements since our last visit so lets give them a good show. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Newest DAARA Fan Club Members

Jayleigh's first trip to East Bay                      Rylan checking out the #6 at North Florida    Colton and Trucker with the #75

                                                       East Bay Raceway

You could not have asked for a better night to resume the DAARA schedule.

The Midgets started off the show with a great Heat race followed by another fast paced feature event. At the Checkers it was Wes Hill being challenged the whole way by Luke Hill in the V6 and Bobby Jordan in the #5 and Barry Watson in the beautiful #41 machine. Jerry Paquin suffered mechanical issues during hot laps forcing an early retirement from the event. Great show guys congratulations to all.

The V8s and 6Cyl. class also put on a whale of a show. The always fast #7 of Cush Revette and the 61K of Richie Iverson battled side by side for many laps with Rocky Buckles in the Red #75 followed closely by Steve Parrish in the #38 and Dave Davis in the beautiful #7, looking for an opening to squeeze thru right behind them. It was Cush Revette in the #7 Chevy that crossed first at the finish nosing out Richie Iverson who came in a close 2nd with Rocky Buckles 3rd, Steve Parrish in 4th and Dave Davis in the #7 right behind. Congratulations again to all for a great race.

East Bay Raceway was the much needed medicine as we cope with the loss of DAARA family member Charlie Dean. Close friend and fellow competitor Bob Wolpert debuted his new dirt Sprint Car with the #52 in honor of Charlie Dean and appointed the legendary driver Stan Butler to pilot it for the evening. 7 Sprinters took the green flag with action at every corner. With tricky track conditions it was the #52 piloted by Stan Butler that over came and slipped away from the field. The # 6 of Darren Nichols would finish 2nd followed closely by Cole Nichols in the #20, Jimmie Miltner in the 4X4, Louis Brashear in the 4K, Josh Rynd in the 15 and Merle Strickland in the #21. The feature event was more of the same great action with battles around the track. The #52 car was not to be denied  following a brief battle with Miltner in the 4X4, checked out on the field and was running in its own zip code. Following the #52 was the 4X4 of Jmmie Miltner, the #6 of Darren Nichols, 4K of Louis Brashear, the former #15 Frank Riddle car of Josh Rynd, #20 Cole Nichols and 21 of Merle Strickland. In the end of a caution free feature it was Stan Butler in the  #52 car of Bob Wolpert taking the checkers in the feature event. Coming home in 2nd was the #6 Flamed machine of Darren Nichols after a late race battle with the 4X4 of Jimmie Miltner. Cole Nichols in the 20 made a late race charge to 4th with Louis Brashear in the 4K, Josh Rynd in the 15 and Merle Strickland in the 21 close behind.  Congrats to both Bob Wolpert for fielding his beautiful new machine and to Stan Butler for driving it to Victory Lane. This ones for you Charlie.

A big Thank You to everyone for coming out and lloking forward to the next event at Hendry County this coming Saturday night.

It is with great sadness I have to tell you that we lost a DAARA BOARD MEMBER and a FRIEND CHARLIE DEAN, this morning.

According to long time friend Jack Sapp, Charlie's heart gave out....
Please keep Charlie's son Brian, Sue and all of his family and friends in your prayers.
Please also remember Charlie's Sprinter family, as well as the entire DAARA race family, as we deal with the loss of yet another friend.

417 Speedway

It was great to get back to the 417 Speedway. The weather was beautiful with sunny skies and a nice breeze and we had another nice field of cars for the event.

In the Stock Cars and Modifieds Frank Lenhardt in the lightning fast #93 along with Steve Slaughter in the beautiful #13 car dueled it out in both the heat and the feature races holding off challenges from Rock Buckles in the red #75, carl Doughty in the Red #3, Dan Hayes in his Black #7 car and Steve Parrish in the famous #38.

In the Sprint Car Class we had another impressive field of 11 cars making the trip to the Beautiful 417 Speedway. In the Heat race it was Robert Campbell driving the beautiful Black #5 edging out Duane LeCornu in the brand new  gorgeous Red #7 car in its maiden voyage, after battling it out with John Parrish in the Red #10 and Chris Hahn in the beautiful Blue #1 car, Bob Wolpert in this awesome white #5, Charlie Dean in the famous White #52 Bagatelle Special, Louis Brashear in the Red #4K, Jimmie Miltner in the Red 4X4, Cole Nichols in the White #20, Darren Nichols in the Flamed Yellow #6 and Merle Strickland in his beautiful White # 21. The feature was red flagged on the 2nd lap due to an accident involving Charlie Dean in the Bagatelle #52, who got into the marbles and made heavy contact with the retaining wall in turn 3 and 4. Charlie was taken by ambulance to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Meyers. At the time of this writing 10/22/18, Charlie remains in Critical Condition but has shown some improvement today as more tests are needed to further evaluate his condition. We ask for your prayers for a speedy recovery for this DAARA family member. We will keep everyone updated as new information is available. When racing resumed It was Duane LeCornu coming out with the checkered flag in his beautiful new Red #7 machine. Thank you to all participants for coming out to show these Beautiful machines at work and please keep Charlie Dean and his family and friends in your prayers for a full recovery.

Practice tonight Friday Oct. 19th

at 417 Speedway from 3 to 10 pm

North Florida Speedway

It was another great weekend for the DAARA cars as we returned to The North Florida Speedway. On the heels of Hurricane Michael, the weather was actually gorgeous and perfect for a night of racing for both fans and competitors. Thanks to the great people at North Florida Speedway for having us.

Rocky Buckles in the Red #75and Steve Parrish in the  Yellow #38 Stole the show for the 6cylinder class with a great battle on the track in both the heat race and the feature with Rocky Buckles dueling it out for the feature win.

Richie Iverson was King in the V8s class in the #61K taking the heat race win and suffering a mechanical issue in the feature and was forced to retire.

The Sprint car class had a good turn out as well.

The heat race was a nail biter all the way with battles all over the track. Josh Rynd took the early lead over Jimmy Miltner who caught a rut which turned him off the racing line. Darren Nichols caught Josh Rynd finally and had a toe to toe battle for the lead with a hard charging Louis Brashear nearing the fight for the lead. Caution flew as Josh Rynd caught a rut deflating his right front tire allowing everyone to catch their breath in this action packed heat race. When racing resumed it was Darren Nichols and Louis Brashear battling for the top spot with a fast closing Cole nichols in the #20 and Dave Cash in the #98. In the closing laps Nichols was able to edge out front at the finish with Louis Brashear a very close 2nd and a charging Cole Nichols and Dave Cash both right on their tails. The feature race was more of the same with excitement at every turn. Louis Brashear hit the gap and took the early lead with Jimmie Miltner in the 4X4, Josh Rynd in the 15, Darren Nichols in the 6, Dave Cash in the 98, RD Mueller in the 46 and Ed Johnson in the #3 all giving chase. By Mid race Darren Nichols had raced his way to the 4K of Louis Brashear as the battle resumed with Brashear out front. With 3 laps remaining Nichols#6 car ejected the right front wheel and tire skyward and coasted to a stop slowing the race once again. The 4K of Brashear would not be denied and led the remaining laps of an action packed evening. Congratulations to all for an enjoyable event on a beautiful evening. Thank you to everyone for coming out and making the long drive and thanks for the awesome show.

  • Dear DAARA Members,
  • I feel that the time has come that I step down as President of our DAARA club.
  • I have given this much thought and consideration. My health is not as great as it should be, to continue to be as active as I have been in the past.  Because of this I have been working with various members and have had to depend on several to keep events going as they should be.
  • In this search for someone who is calm mannered, devoted to the club and is willing to work for the club and someone who has served on the board and its members, who is well liked by all who have taken the time to know him, led me to appoint Darren Nichols to serve as President for the duration of my term.
  • Darren and his wife Bonita (who is club Secretary) have helped with many events and the Nationals, for several years now also and actually work with and for the board and its members.
  • The other member who has been devoted to helping on the board, events, nationals and anything that has needed a hand for the club for years now is Rocky Buckles.  Rocky has been appointed to serve in Darren’s place as Vice President.  Rocky’s Board seat was filled by Mary Treeful.  Mary has worked and helped with most all events and the Nationals for years now as well.
  • I will still continue with the board as Past President and will have full voting powers, as all past Presidents have had.   I fully plan to assist Darren, Rocky and the Board as needed and will be there as needed.
  • I think you will find that the Officers and Board that you have now is a great group and will continue to promote the club and do their best for its members.
  • I will also continue to be Asphalt Track Coordinator and set up events and deal with all of the asphalt track owners.
  • Richie Iversen will continue to be Dirt Track Coordinator and deal with all dirt track events and track owners.
  • Thank You, for all of your support.  We will see you soon.      JT Dunn

North Florida Speedway

The weather was beautiful and we all had a great time at North Florida. The new clay on the track was fantastic and made for some great racing action. During intermission we  had a great time with a meet and greet with the fans and handed out candy for the kids. A great night of fun for all.

Steve Parrish doing a safety check on the candy before handing out to the kids.

Trick or Treat!!

Carl, Steve and Richie going after it.

Auburndale Speedway

MORE RAIN!!! Again thanks to everyone who came out. Thanks to Auburndale Speedway for trying to make it happen. We had a good showing of cars once again despite threatening weather. The deluge started right after the drivers meeting. Best race of the day was running for cover from the pouring down rain.

Citrus County Speedway

19 cars arrived for DAARA's return to Citrus County Speedway on Saturday night. 7 Sprints made the trip, 5 of our 6 cyl. cars, and 7 of our V8 cars. It was very good turn out with weather being a constant threat. Once again the weather changed our plans making for a short evening but we at least got the opportunity to get on the track for some hot laps and get the blood pumping, sweat flowing and enigines fired up again. Thank you all for coming out even with the weather it was good seeing everyone again.

Auburndale Event Postponed

Heavy rains forced the postponement of last nights DAARA event in Auburndale. This event is rescheduled for next Sunday afternoon at 4pm on 10/8/17. Gates open at 2pm for practice and racing begins at 4. This will be a non SVS event out of respect for members having a long distance to travel and go to work on Monday. Points were awarded for everyone who showed up for the rained out event. For all of you who are die hards we have a busy week this week. Friday night open practice at Citrus County Speedway followed by the Saturday night SVS points show at Citrus County Speedway. Just a reminder to check your safety belts. They must be manufactured in the last 4 years. This is a track mandate for Citrus County Speedway for all cars taking the track. Following the Citrus County Speedway event will be a return to the Auburndale Bullring on Sunday afternoon for a non SVS make up race. This is a great opportunity to get some laps as scheduling and weather have played havoc on us this year. This will be a full weekend of racing fun and we are looking forward to seeing you all at the track.

Hello DAARA Family

We are back in action tomorrow night at the Auburndale Speedway.  Lets get the dust blown off and go enjoy this great facility. Keep in mind we have back to back weekends with Citrus County Speedway being next weekend. We are definitely looking forward to seeing all of you again.

Citrus County Speedway Update

It has been brought to our attention that all classes running at Citrus County Speedway including DAARA cars must have Safety belts 4 years or newer from the date of manufacture on the belts. There are no exceptions and the track will be checking the belts. We apologize for the short notice but just received this update. Please check your belts to make sure you meet this standard for Citrus County Speedway.

The Auburndale Speedway, Event for Sat September 23 rd has been CANCELLED, due to Hurricane Irma damage, at the track.
It has been rescheduled for Sat September 30th.
That will put us Auburndale and Citrus back to back. But, as long as it has been since we could run, everyone should about be ready for a foot race.
Hope to have a big turn out!...
Be safe and hope that this is the beginning to getting back to normal.

 Attention DAARA Members**
Bill Cleary at a the Marion County Speedway, "(The Bull Ring), is offering those with motor homes or trailers to come there, at no charge, to ride out the hurricane, if you need to evacuate.
This is such a wonderful offer and we all appreciate Bill, Lori and family, for always being there in time of need.

  • The Desoto Speedway Event for September 16 the has been CANCELLED, due to the pending hurricane and its uncertainty.
For those of you who evacuate, please be safe and do not wait to long to leave.
    See you all at Auburndale.

As you have read and seen, our friends at Marion County Speedway's "Bull Ring", lost the grand old building we all loved, due to fire.
The burned building housed both the concession stand as well as the ladies and men's room's.
The "Bull Ring" at Marion County has been home to our DAARA Fall Nationals for several years. We also have several of our SVS events there during the year.
This little grass roots, family owned dirt track has been a DAARA family favorite for quite some time now.
Most all tracks have a $30.00 pit fee these days. We would like to request that all of our members that possible can, make a donation of at least that much to help with rebuilding cost.
Make checks payable to: Marion County Speedway, 20395 Lake Lindsey Rd, Brooksville, FL 34601

Please know that we are in contact with those involved with the Desoto track.
Sometimes, when nothing is said, there is a reason.
To some it is a track. But to those who are involved, it is first a business.
We will let you know as soon as possible....
Until the ones who changed the date and are involved tells us different, the 9/16 date stands. We will let you know if that changes.
JT and Richie are in contact with all tracks. Schedules are set.
Sometimes dates are full and fitting in a group our size, is just too much for fitting in, this late.
Please know that events for our group are important and are being worked on.
Tracks changing hands or management changes are out of our hands.
But, all new parties and rumored parties have been spoken with.

We have also, been in touch with date, replacement tracks.
Patience please.
Right now no news, is good news.
Updates soon.

It will be held at Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home, 1350 E Burleigh Blvd, Tavares, FL 32778.
Everyone is invited, to attend.
Laura is the late wife of our DAARA push truck driver, Robert Platt....

***Attention DAARA MEMBERS***
Due to a scheduling conflict the DESOTO SPEEDWAY EVENT, has been moved to September 16th.
This does make for back to events, with Auburndale being the next week of the 23rd.
Sorry for any inconveniences this may cause anyone.
It was either doing it this way or losing an event....
We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the tracks. Be safe!

It is with a heavy heart that we deliver the news, that Laura Platt passed away around 3:30 this afternoon.
Laura, was the wife of our devoted push truck driver Robert Platt.
Robert called several weeks ago, to let us know that he had taken Laura to the ER with stomach pain and she was diagnosed at that time ( June 15th) with a very agressive liver cancer.
Laura had just turned 60 in May. She was a very devoted wife, daughter, mother and grandmother. She was also a friend to many of us in the DAARA club
We are deeply saddened by the loss.
Please keep Robert and Laura's family in your prayers.
You may send condolences to Robert at 41641 Apollo Ln, DeLand, FL 32720.
A memorial service will be planned for a later date. We will keep you posted

Jackson Bryan of Atlanta made the trip to the Bullring and braved the weather for his first racing experience. While checking out the cars he also got a few autographs and photos. We hope you had a great time and look forward to seeing you again in the near future. Your DAARA Friends.

Marion County Bullring

If you waited out the storms Saturday night at the Bullring then you might be a "Hard Core" race fan. Track prep was underway when the first wave came in and sent everyone running for cover. Once again the track crew set out to work the track and once again the storms came. It literally poured for over an hour before it was done, producing a river around the track and thru the pits. Bill Cleary and crew went to work and work they did for most of 2 hours to make the suface raceable. Many Thanks to Bill and crew for their tireless efforts to get the event in. Several hours and a few bent orange cones later and the event was safely in the books. Thanks to all who made that happen. More Pictures coming soon.

What a show put on by Steve Parrish in his #38 Ford, Richie Iverson in the Rocky Buckles red #75 and Dave Davis in his beautiful red and white #63. Both the heat and the feature were close races with the feature ending with a photo finish. Richie Iverson would be the benefactor of one of the closest finishes this year as he piloted the Red #75 Rocky Buckles machine mere inches in front of Steve Parrish to take the win with Dave Davis shortly behind them. Hats off to all for seeing it thru and putting on a great show.

The V8 class also put on a good show. Ronnie Grubb in his Beautiful Burgandy #44, Carl Doughty in his Red #3, Tommy Gamble in the Beautiful Ford Torino #97, Kelly Jarret in his Black and White #97 and Darren Nichols in the 6X. In the heat race it was Darren Nichols in the Orange and Black 6X modified taking the win. In the hard fought feature event, Ronnie Grubb took the early lead and fended off several challenges by Nichols in the 6X until Nichols bounced off the wall and ended up stuck in the mud in turn 4 collecting a couple Orange cones in the process. When racing resumed Grubb assumed the lead challenged by Kelly Jarret in the beautiful #97. Nichols restarted in the rear after the off track excursion and battled Tommy Gamble for 4th and later Carl Doughty in the Red #3 for 3rd before the race concluded. The burgandy  #44 Ford wheeled by new member Ronnie Grubb would prevail to take the hard earned feature win. With Kelly Jarret in the Beautiful #97 finishing in the #2 spot and Nichols in the 6X recovering to 3rd. Thanks to all for fighting the elements to put on a good show.

Thunder and Lightning Sprints

The Sprints concluded the DAARA show with yet another closely contested race. Josh Rynd in the #15, Terry Broadus in the Yellow #9, Jimmy Miltner in in his Red 4X4, Dave Cash in the Beautiful Yellow and Black #98 Gambler and Ed Johnson in his very popular #3 car. In the Heat race it was Jimmy Miltner in the 4X4 pulling off the win with Terry Broadus on his heals followed by a 3 way battle for 3rd with Ed Johnson in the #3, Dave Cash in the #98 and Josh Rynd in the #15 car. In the feature race Terry Broadus in his Beautiful yellow #9 jumped out to the lead and did not relinquish it fighting off numerous challenges from Miltner in the 4X4. At the Checkered flag it was Broadus' Yellow #9 taking the top spot with Jimmy Miltner close behind in the Red 4X4, Ed Johnson in the #3 would come home 3rd in another 3 way battle with Dave Cash and Josh Rynd.

Again, many thanks to the track crew and Bill Cleary and to all the participants for a safe and extremely fun evening honoring our racing roots.

Eastbay Raceway

Thanks to all of the Midget drivers making the trip to Eastbay. The weather was threatening all evening but we got the show in with some great fun and Great finishes. Bobby Jordan in his Yellow #5  edged out Luke Hill in the #41 car at the line for the feature win followed closely by Wes Hill in the #9 and Ed Johnson in the beautiful #3 car.

6cyl. and V8s

The 6cyl and V8s had a well rounded field. John Godwin in the Beautiful # 22G, Charlie Sanders in the Gorgeous #7A car, Dan Darnell in the very quick #111 and always faithful Steve Parish in the beautiful #38 car represented the 6cylinder class and Cory Lane in the black #78 machine, Darren Nichols in the 6X car, Carl Doughty in the Red #3, Cush Revette in the 7C Chevrolet, and  new comer Kenny Thornton driving the #34 coupe rounding out the V8s.

Racing was fast and furious for the Heat and the feature. Cush Revette spun in the heat race collecting Cory Lane in the process. Cory's black #78 sustained a bent axle and was unable to continue. In the feature race it was Charlie Sanders in the #7A leading the way for most of the event. Dan Darnell in the #111 came from the rear to overtake Sanders in the 7A on the final lap and crossed the line first followed by Sanders close behind. Steve Parrish would come home 3rd in another thrilling event. Thanks to all of you for coming with the weather threatening.

Thunder and Lightning in the Sky and Sprints on the Track

Josh Rynd in the #15, Charlie Dean in the Beautiful Blue #52, and Jimmy Miltner in the 4X4 made the trip to Eastbay raceway. Both the heat and the feature were exciting with multiple passes for the lead. With a tricky track and weather looming the trio battled it out lap after lap. On the white flag lap Josh Rynd got a launch out of turn 2 propelling him to the lead with Jimmy Miltner in the 4X4 and Charlie Dean in the Bagatelle #52 in hot persuit. Josh was able to hold them off just long enough to cross the finish line first with Miltner and Dean just behind. Thanks for a great show and thanks for coming out. We also want to thank Robert for bringing the push truck and keeping the show rolling.

Thanks everyone for coming out with the weather threatening and looking forward to seeing you all at the Marion County Bullring this coming weekend.

EastBay Raceway

We hope to see all of you there as we invade the Eastbay Raceway for the first time this year on Saturday June 3rd. Lets all have a safe weekend.

Schedule Update

We have been given an additional event at the Marion County Bullring scheduled for Saturday June 10th. We are looking forward to seeing all of you out there for another fun filled evening with the great folks at the Marion County Bullring. Bring your friends and family and lets have fun.

**Attention DAARA Family**
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the loss, of long time DAARA Family member Tim Blackie. Tim has been bravely fighting ill health, off and on for years now.
We would like to express our sincerest condolences, to his wife Rhoda and their entire family.
Rhoda's father Sammy Packard, was one of the founding fathers of Nascar. He was also a DAARA officer back in the day, as was Rhoda.
Rhoda was a very active member and driver in our club f...or many, many years.
Tim, was a devoted husband and pit crew chief in the Packard/Blackie race team.
We were always happy to see their motor home and rig roll into our DAARA events.
Tim never failed to greet everyone with a smile and a few words of both wit and kindness.
We have missed both Rhoda and her loving husband Tim, during the last few years, as Tim has been putting up a great fight for health, family and life.
Our prayers are with the entire family.
DAARA Officers and Board

The 4-17 Speedway event for this weekend has been CANCELLED!!!!!

Due to predicted bad weather for Saturday.

Please let everyone that doesn't  have access to the internet know!

Dont forget this weekend 5/20/17 at the 417 Speedway in Punta Gorda. Our last event here was a great show with a large crowd, good friends and great food. We are looking forward to seeing you there and hope you can all make it for this one as we put on another great show.

Auburndale Speedway

Weather was on our side Saturday night at the Auburndale Speedway. Perfect conditions for a fun night of racing. A large turn out of 29 cars checked  in for this event and all classes were well represented. Pictures will be added to the gallery soon so keep watching for them.

Bob Law in the #5 car, Wes Hill piloting the #9 car and Jerry Paquin wheeling the #10 all put on a great show. Thank you all for making the trip. Both the heat race and the feature went off without a hitch. The feature came down to the wire with Wes Hill's #9 machine coming out on top followed closely by Bob Law in the #5 and Jerry paquin suffered some mechanical issues and had to retire the beautiful #10 early during the event.

Chris Hatton in the #1 car, Ricky Taylor in the #04, Kenny Thornton in the #34, Richie Iverson in the Rocky Buckles #75, Fred Robinson in the #78, Richie Gomes in his #27, Steve Parrish driving the #38 and Dave Davis in the Flat Head powered #63 all making the trip for the 6 cyl. class. This was an excellent field of cars and the racing was intense as always. Richie Iverson driving the Rocky Buckles #75 was the winner of the heat race. The Feature event was a good tight race the whole way with battles throughout the field. The eventual winner was the beautiful #78 car driven by Fred Robinson. Richie Iverson in the Red #75 Rocky Buckles machine was quickly closing the gap but came up a little short at the line in 2nd with Steve Parish finishing a close 3rd.

Ron Hess in the #34, Tobi Smith driving the #44, Scott Fobes in the #55, Jody Modine in the #45, Darren Nichols in the #6X, Cory Lane in the black #78, Louis "Bam Bam" Brashear piloting the #4k and John Smith in the #11 car were all in attendance. Thank you all for making the trip to Auburndale. In the feature event, eventual winner Tobi Smith stole the show. Caution came out for Cory Lane when the throttle hung on gorgeous black #78 going into turn 3 and impacted the wall ending the night for the #78 car and driver. Cory was OK after the incident. Louis Brashear also had a couple of spins but recovered nicely to finish 2nd after battling back through the field and fending off Jody Modine's late race challenge in the #45 machine. Modine would finish 3rd closely challenging for the runner up spot but noone could touch Tobi Smith's black#44  this night.

Sprint Cars

Another outstanding field of Sprint Cars invaded Auburndale Speedway Saturday Night. Dave Cash and the #98 Gambler, Merle Strickland in the #21 car, Charlie Dean in the #52 machine, Roy Campbell in the #10, Jimmy Mittner driving the #4X4, Chris hahn in the beautiful # 1 car, Robert Campbell piloting the gorgeous black #5 machine, Terry Broadus in the yellow #9 car and Bob Wolpert in the Red #5 all making the tow to Auburndale. The feature race was another great Battle at the Bullring with Charlie Dean starting on the pole in the #52 machine. Charlie pulled out to an early lead in the main event with Jimmy Mittner, Robert Campbell and the rest of the field in hot persuit with every position contested. After working his way through the field, Robert Cambell in the Black #5 car set his sights on Jimmy Mittner and the 4X4 car. After a couple laps of side by side racing Campbell was able to get the advantage and slip by Mittner as they caught lap traffic. Campbell made a last lap charge at Charlie Dean in the #52 car but Charlie got the better run off turn 4 to take the win with Campbell and Mittner close behind in 2nd and 3rd.

Thanks to everyone for attending and lets keep the momentum rolling.

"October 7, 2017"

We are very excited to get back into the Citrus County Speedway.  We are appreciative of  JT staying with this effort and Howie Masters who helped with  the "in person negotiations" with Cameron.  "You guys rock".
DAARA has always enjoyed this track and look forward to going back there next season as well.
We are hoping for a fantastic first turn out to this event, as they are under the new management, since our last visit.
We hope to see all of you at the Auburndale Speedway on May 13th.  We are all looking forward to seeing Rex, Collette and the gang, as well as our friend Rick Bristol who is also back there as well.
Take care, be safe and see you at the track

North Florida Speedway

First and foremost a great big hand to all who made the trip to North Florida Speedway. This was without a doubt a very good turnout for all classes. We also want to thank North Florida Speedway for having us again but the best was yet to come.

We had 4 midgets signed in at Norht Florida Speedway to include Luke Hill in the 41, Boyd Vander Syde in the 9 car, Wesley Hill in his #9 and Bobby Jordan in the yellow #5. The midgets had a terrific race night and put on an excellent show.

6cyl. and V8s ran together Saturday night and put on another nailbiter with very close and clean racing. Tommy Gamble in the #97 Torino, Ronnie Grubb in the beautiful #44, Ronnie Rohn in the #1, Richie Gommes in the #27 car, Steve Parrish making the long trip in the #38, Richie Iverson piloting the Rocky Buckles #75 and Darren Nichols in the #6X. The feature race was another barn burner with eventual winner Richie Iverson coming out on top with a hard charging Darren Nichols 6X hot on his heels in 2nd.

The Sprint Cars also had a great turn out with 7 Sprinters signed in. Tate Young in the beautiful Black #3 car, RD Mueller in the 46, Terry Broadus in the Yellow #9, Josh Rynd in the #15 car, Dave Cash in the # 98 Gambler, Jimmie Mittner in the 4X4, and Charlie Dean in the Blue #52. Fireworks lit up the night sky as the Thunder and Lightning Sprinters made their pace laps. The feature race  was another good battle with Josh Rynd taking the honors at the Checkered Flag.

It was a good safe night for all participants and a definite win for DAARA. Thanks again to the good folks at North Florida Speedway and to all of the participants and families and friends for making it a great success and keeping our racing heritage alive and well. Photos will be added as soon as we get them all in. We are looking forward to seeing all of you at the next event in Auburndale on May 13th.

We will be posting new galleries for each event. We are trying to update and learn at the same time so bear with us.

DAARA will return to 417 Speedway Saturday May 20th.

Well everyone wanted to go back to 417 Speedway so here it is for Saturday May 20th. Dont forget to come a little early as the pits fill up quickly and come hungry as the 417 has some of the best food around.  JT

Marion County Bullring Results

It was great to see everyone at the Marion County Bullring last night. There was some good racing action throughout the evening. We had Midgets, Sprints, 6cylinders and V8s all present for a beautiful night at Marion County.

Ed Johnson made the haul with his #3 car taking the win in the Heat and the feature. Thank you to Ed Johnson for making the trip and supporting our club.

6 Cyl.

We had another good field of cars in the 6 Cyl. class. Ed Daniels, Richie Gomes, Steve Parrish and Richie Iverson made the trip to the Bullring. Thank you all for supporting the club and Vintage racing. Richie Gomes headed up the field in the heat race. The feature race was action packed with close racing. Coming from the back of the field Richie Iverson was our Feature winner driving the Rocky Buckles owned machine to victory lane during a very hard fought feature race. Richie Gomes came in 2nd and also got the fan club of the week award followed by Steve Parrish rounding out the top 3 of the field.

We had a good field of cars in the V8 class as well. Kelly Jarret, Tommy Gamble, Terry Maraman, Darren Nichols and new member Ronnie Grubb made the tow to the Bullring. Kelly Jarret edged out Darren Nichols on a last lap pass for the heat win. The feature race was an all out throw down with side by side action from start to finish. Kelly Jarret was the eventual winner over Darren Nichols in 2nd and Ronnie Grubb driving for Tommy Gamble in the #97 Torino came home in 3rd in another very hard fought closely contested feature race. Ronnie Grubb's #44 and Terry Maraman's #78 owned by Cory Lane both suffered mechanical issues and were forced to retire their cars early for the night.

Sprint Cars

We had a great field of Sprint Cars for this event. Dave Cash, RD Mueller, Merle Strickland, Hank Young, Josh Rynd and Terry Broadus/ Chad Freeman made the trip to the Bullring for another great Sprint Car field. Thank you all for supporting our sport. Josh Rynd came home first in the Heat Race after a hard charge from Hank Young came up just short. The feature race was another great race in a night full of action and close racing. Hank Young took the lead on the 3rd lap of the feature holding off all challengers and taking the feature win. A last lap pass by Chad Freeman wheeling the Terry Broadus yellow #9 ride finishing in 2nd and a charging Josh Rynd completed the top 3 in a very competitive feature event. Dave Cash and Merle Strickland rounded out the field in another great outing for the Sprint Cars.

Thank you to all classes for bringing out these beautiful machines and helping to support and preserve our Auto Racing Heritage. We hope to see everyone that can make the trip to North Florida Speeday in Lake City for some more dirt racing action on the high banked 1/2 mile. Looking forward to seeing you all there on April 22.

We're looking forward to seeing everyone tonight at Marion County Speedway

More DAARA News and updates to follow. We are in the process of updating the website and will be adding more photos to the albums and front stretch as well. This will take time, but will be moving along and you will see the progress soon. JT

  • First we would like to send our sincere condolences to the Steele family, for the untimely loss, of their loved one.
Wow, what a difference a year makes the track improvements at Punt Gorda's, 417 Southern Speedway, were great and the staff was very friendly and generous. They put us first in both the heat & main. That is a big plus.
  • A total of 20 cars showed up for our event, the heats went off smoothly but the real fun was watching our mains.
    In the 6cyls Richie Gome...s was 1st , Howard Masters a close 2nd and Darren Nickels 3rd.
Then it was the 8 cyls turn, Cory Lane aced out Frank Lenhardt, for the top spot and Louis Brashear was a respectable third
When the Sprinters came out things got real interesting. Team Campbell finshed 1st, then came Bob Wolpert 2nd and Jimmy Miltner a close third.
One thing I do need to mention is the food on the pit side.
Bobby J, you should have been there it was super. When was the last time, in the pits, you could get hot wings, or a real Philly-cheese . They also made a ruben that made ya think you were back up north again.
Well that is kind of what happened, so we will see you all at the bull ring. So put on your dirt shoes.
Thanks again to everyone who came and also to the staff at the 4 17. Hope to see you all again. JT

Its almost that time again, Auburndale is next week the weatherman said its going to be great and winter is gone so come on down.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone again. Same thing as last year setup Wed and the fun starts Thurs.
Don't forget to set up your motel reservations today. Info on Nationals info button..
Everyone have a safe trip down and we shall see you there. JT

Steve Parrish completes SEVEN CONSECUTIVE YEARS of perfect attendance!!!

An old saying in sports is "records are made to be broken". Well, the record Steve Parrish set this past Saturday at Putnam County Speedway not only will not be broken,  the streak is continuing. Steve, from South Florida, has attended EVERY DAARA RACE for the past 7 years. Yes, that is not a mis print, "7 Years". Through bad weather, the threat of rain outs and all other adversity Steve has fauthfully towed his potent #38 6 cylinder stock car to every race DAARA has held since 2010. Steve sometimes tows 7 hours one way to pilot his vintage car on both dirt and asphalt speedway from 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile in length. Always all alone in his pickup, many weeks the sun has come up the next day before Steve gets back home as he never stays overnight before starting his trip back home.

In todays world where getting folks to commit to anything, even for a short time is difficult, Steve sets a great example of determination, passion and commitment.

The entire membership of DAARA would like to say thanks for a job well done!

The Passing of the "DAARA PADDLE"

Charlie Dean receives the DAARA paddle from previous holder Richie Iversen

The "Paddle Award" started back in Zephyrhills,FL in the 90"s. They had a pond inside of turns 3 and 4. If you put your car in the pond or really close, you were awarded the paddle. You were the proud (or not always) owner of this "DAARA Paddle" Award until the next member went in. Every recipient has signed that paddle since the first award.

Richie has had possession of this paddle since Citrus County almost two years ago. After Charlie ended up in 3 feet of water in the infield at Hendry County Speedway during the spint car feature Saturday night, due to a broken tie rod end, Richie promptly called for a presentation ceremony at Charlie's pit. Richie proudly awarded Charlie the Paddle to the delight of DAARA members!

                       WAITING TO BE SAVED

When our club members arrived at Desoto Speedway, all were surprised by  the improvements made by the new owners.

DAARA had 33 cars show present for the event, larger than most any divison all season in Florida! Three new members joined the club, Terry Marman, Doug Cheesborough and Stan Butler. Two past members, Charlie Paschal and Rock Reigle also paid for new memberships. We would like to welcome all of them!.

The heat races went off smoothly, after which we all took a break and got ready for our features.

Our 6 cyl class was up first, with the Campbell clan being represented by  Robbie Campbell taking the win, followed by Charlie Padgett second and Lenny Goding with a closing third.

The Midgets then took the track, Phil Pete's car with his hired gun Stan Butler, at the wheel finished up first, with Bobby Jorden second and Ken Davison was third.

Our Speedsters put on a great show with Rick Sanders finishing first, Bill Stelcher second and Bill Wheelock in third.

The V-8 Mod's then took the track. Rock Reigle dusted off his orange modified # 81 and edged out Cory Lane in one of the hardest fought battles of the night, with JT Dunn (that would be me,) coming in third.

To finish off the night, out came the Sprint cars. Jimmy Miltner and Charlie Dean had a battle from the green to the checkered, with Jimmy out front at the end. Capt. Jack Sapp came in a close third.

Once again, I wish to thank Critter and Jimmy Cope and their whole team, for having us at Desoto Speedway and thanks to all of our members that make our shows a success.

I will see our all of you at Auburndale Speedway on October 18th.  We also wish our Sprinters the best of luck at Desoto Speedway that same night.      Till next time.      JT Dunn / DAARA President.

30 DAARA cars graced the pits at the Citrus County Speedway in Inverness Florida May 10. the Citrus management added 1 additional free pit pass for each entered DASARA car, which was a very nice gesture. Many DAARA members brought out their vintage cars for the first time as this was the first asphalt SVS race of the 2014 season

Everyone had a GREAT time at Lake City:  Some of our members we haven't seen for a while showed up and a couple were going home for the summer. Ronnie and Sue Rohn were there as well as Earl Lindsey and his family. It was good to see them again. Ken and Shirley Morden was leaving the next day to make their way back home. We wish them a same trip home. The heat's went on without a hitch. Afterward, at the intermission we had an Easter egg hunt on the front stretch, to the enjoyment of all of the kids.
Then on to our feature event. The Sprints were out first with Dave Cash showing the way followed by Jimmy Miltner and Josh Rynd. The Midget's put on a good show with Jerry Paquin Showing the way followed closely by Bobby Jordan, then came Ken Davison, piloting Bill Rynd's car, with Ed Johnson's uncaged sprint close behind. When our stock cars and Modified's took to the track Ronnie Rohn made his way to the front showing off his dirt driving skills, followed by Richie Iversen, Steve Parrish driving hard came in third, followed by Charlie Pagent, Shirley Morden and Earl Lindsey was just ahead of JT.
So that's what happened. I do want to thank all at North Florida Speedway for the great track prep and making us feel welcome. We are hoping to see you at Citrus County Speedway May 10th. For those of you out of state who cannot make it, support your local short track and be safe.   See you soon.  JT

Dudley and Nancy Balmer Commentary

Spring is breaking out all over and the memories of the three long months of being caught in the frigid northland are slowly melting away. What we expected to be three or four weeks dealing with Nancy’s mom and her deterioration and entering a nursing home became an extended stay of three months. We know that some of our DAARA family are going through or have gone through the same challenges. Nancy commented that the first Wewahitchka sign as we came south on hwy 71 had never looked so welcoming. Even coming home to broken water pipes was a welcome change from shoveling snow and sub zero temperatures.

Commitments may at times keep us away from our DARRA family but never keep the DAARA folks out of our hearts. Through phone calls, texts and emails we stay involved with many of the challenges in the lives of our DAARA folks. For all those that have had physical issues and other things going on in their lives, we do keep you in prayer and celebrate when we get good news. Many of the relationships we have made through this organization are treasured and enduring friendships. I believe we all share the goal of preserving the racing history which we have been able to live. If we tire and fail to keep our vintage cars and their stories alive then this part of the past will be gone forever. We are a privileged few that have been fortunate to have lived in a rougher and simpler time. As we remember where we have been, we look forward to where we are going in our efforts to keep vintage racing alive and well. Our Pennsylvania dirt modified is still in our back yard awaiting loving hands and elbow grease to bring it back to life. At the moment, our 2014 schedule is just coming together and wherever we are able to travel this season, we hope to finish up at the DAARA Nationals in November. If we can be of any help to our DAARA family in any way please let us know. My personal email is simply This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . We appreciate all the calls and emails and hope to see everyone soon as we plan to do more Florida events during the 2014 season. Until then, God Bless.

DAARA Member Phil Pete Recognized in Circle Track Magazine!

The June, 2014 edition of Stock Car magazine features Phil's outstanding restoration of his father's midget roadster. This immaculate race car received the Best Appearing Car award at the recent DAARA Spring Nationals at Auburndale Speedway. Located in the magazines "Ultimate Racing" section, the 6 page spread details the original creation of the car by Fred Pete in 1959, the search to find and acquire the car as well as the restoration process. Phil should be very proud of how he restored the car, and DAARA is equally proud to call him a member of the clubs family!

Road Racing with the Speedsters

In an unusual offer the Vintage Drivers Club of America

(www. invited members of the D.A.A.R.A. Speedsters to join the Pre-War class at road races in Savannah Georgia on December 12th to the 15th at Roebling Road Raceways.

With only fourteen days notice Rick Sanders cleared his schedule and upgraded his driver’s suit and helmet to the safety standards of the VDCA. Bill Wheelock and Ed Daniels we’re unable to change previous plans but vowed to be there next year.

Rick was joined by D.A.A.R.A. membersBill Stelcher and Scott Ebert, who are also members of the VDCA. ‘Rocket Roy’ Campbelljoined the guys to make sure engines were purring in the cold.

When the 8:30 practice started there was spotty frost in the grasses along the track. It was very cold! Rick stated that his ‘D.A.A.R.A. skills made road race less daunting.’ Later on Friday there was a ten lap heat race in driving rain which Rick lowered his lap times on the 2.2 mile course from 2:31.552 to 2:20.152.

The races were dominated by Scott Ebert and his 1939 Dryer Ford Special V-8 who managed to finish first in the Saturday races as well. Bill Stelcher and Rick dueled back and forth on the long straight reaching speeds close to 90 mph. The D.A.A.R.A. Speedsters earned the respect of the VDCA drivers with no off-course events or spins in spite of the tough track conditions.
